Innovation: NITDA, RHI activate 10 Digital Economy Centres to empower communities across Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to bridging digital divide and empowering communities across the country.

ConsumerConnect reports the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Renewed Hope Initiative, recently commissioned 10 Digital Economy Centres across Nigeria.

The new Digital Economy Centres are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that provide consumers access to modern technology, learning tools, and connectivity.

NITDA also disclosed Nigerian First Lady (Senator) Oluremi Tinubu, CON, commissioned the digital facilities virtually.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency said the First Lady reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive digital growth and empowerment.

The agency further noted the 10 Digital Economy Centres would serve as “innovation hubs”, where students, entrepreneurs, and citizens can learn digital skills, explore emerging technologies, and unlock new opportunities in today’s knowledge-driven economy.

According to NITDA, the centres are: Women Development Centre, Umuahia, Abia State; Model Technical College, Asaba, Delta State; Ujabhole Grammar School Irrua, Esan Central, Edi, Edo State; ICT Centre, Tsanyawa, Kano State; Model Primary School, Matazu, Katsina State; and Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Others are TAAL eLibrary, Lafia, Nassarawa State; Ondo State Public Service Institute, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State; Shehu Sule College of Nursing, Damaturu, Yobe State; and Zamfara State Library Board, Gusau, Zamfara State, Northern Nigeria.

The IT industry regulator stated: “NITDA is bringing technology closer to the people, fostering inclusion, and driving the vision of a digitally empowered and globally competitive Nigeria in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
