CNII: Police nab 5 suspected vandals, recover stolen telecoms assets in Lagos

*Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrest five suspected telecoms vandals, and recover a truckload of alleged stolen iron rods for the construction of telecoms masts in Ibeju-Lekki area of the cosmopolitan state

In line with the country’s classification of telecoms equipment as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), the Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected telecoms vandals, and recovered a truckload of alleged stolen iron rods in Ibeju-Lekki area of the cosmopolitan state.

The Police authorities, in a statement Saturday, August 22, 2026, disclosed the operatives arrested the suspects on the spot while stealing iron poles intended for the construction of telecoms masts, and transporting the items in a truck.

The statement noted SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Lagos State Police Command, named the suspects as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20.

Adebisi said the suspects had been in police custody, and under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, in Yaba area of the “Centre of Excellence”.

According to the Police, a discreet investigation is ongoing, to arrest other fleeing suspects and establish the full extent of their criminal activities against the country’s critical infrastructure.

The Police PRO also stated the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army (NA) supported the operation carried out as part of the Command’s intensified efforts at curbing vandalism and theft of critical infrastructure across Lagos State.

CP Tijani Fatai, Commissioner of Police, in Lagos State, in the statement, reiterated the Command’s resolve to protect critical national infrastructure, and bring perpetrators of vandalism to justice.

Fatai also urged Lagos residents to promptly report suspicious activities in their communities to security agencies for action.
