Prof. Olusegun Aina Friday, July 31, 2026, formally took over the leadership as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at a brief ceremony held at the National Headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.

He also assured especially stakeholders in the education sector, and Nigerians in general of simplifying procedures to enhance communication channels, and deploy technology to improve efficiency in the public examination system.
The new Registrar of JAMB noted that those measures would reduce the anxiety often associated with examination registration, and others in the West African country.
Aina, a professor of Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, further emphasised that integrity remains the cornerstone of any credible institution.
Aina cautioned that technological advancement and operational efficiency usually, lose their value when not anchored on trust and transparency.

The Registrar stated at the handover ceremony: “Ladies and gentlemen, trust is not built by speeches; it is built by decisions, by the choices we make when no one is watching, by the standards we refuse to compromise and by the value that every Nigerian can place in the fairness of this institution.
“That is why the first commitment of my stewardship is simple: we shall protect the integrity of JAMB with everything the law permits.”
Aina said: “Integrity is not merely one of our values; it is the foundation upon which every other achievement rests. “Without integrity, technology becomes a tool for manipulation; without integrity, efficiency loses its meaning; without integrity, public confidence disappears.”
He equally signalled a hardline stance against examination malpractices and admission-related fraud and racketeering.
The 39-year-old computer engineer declared that his administration would leave no room for individuals or groups seeking to undermine the credibility of the tertiary admission process in Nigeria.
The Chief Executive of JAMB, therefore, warned operators of examination malpractice rings, impersonators, certificate forgers, cybercriminals and corrupt officials that JAMB would intensify efforts at exposing and prosecuting offenders through a combination of technology, intelligence gathering, and stronger institutional oversight under his leadership.
He also stressed that preserving the sanctity of examinations is not only about enforcing rules but also about protecting opportunities for hardworking and deserving candidates.
Aina disclosed the Board would strengthen collaboration with security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to combat emerging forms of examination fraud, while adopting global best practices to safeguard its systems against abuse.
Every admission obtained through dishonest means deprives a qualified candidate of a legitimate opportunity, stated he.
The Registrar said that JAMB would remain uncompromising in its commitment to fairness and merit in public examinations.
Insight into leadership agenda
Besides tackling examination malpractices, Prof. Aina outlined plans to improve service delivery, and make JAMB more responsive to the needs of candidates, parents and educational institutions.
The Registrar further pledged to simplify procedures, enhance communication channels, and deploy technology to improve efficiency, with a view to reducing the anxiety often associated with examination registration, admissions and other JAMB services in the West African country.
His leadership vision, Auva stated, is to build a more transparent, accessible and citizen-focused institution where users receive timely information and professional support.
He noted that candidates and parents should experience confidence rather than frustration whenever they interact with the Board.
The Registrar, therefore, described JAMB as an institution that plays a critical role in shaping the future of millions of young Nigerians by providing access to higher education and opportunities for advancement.
The new Registrar equally thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Board.
He assured of justifying the confidence placed in him through diligent service and unwavering commitment to the public interest in the education sector.
Aina equally commended Dr. Tunji Alausa, Honourable Minister for Education, for his support, as he pledged to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education in advancing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.
In his tributes to past leaders of the Board, including pioneer Registrar Michael Saidu Angulu, Mohammed Abubakar, Bello Salim, Dibu Ojerinde and his immediate predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, whose contributions he said helped shape JAMB into one of Nigeria’s most respected public institutions.
Aina particularly lauded Prof. Oloyede for his leadership, reform initiatives, and efforts at strengthening public confidence in the Board over the past years.
Going down the memory lane in a personal reflection, Prof. Aina described his appointment as the new Registrar of JAMB as a full-circle moment.
He especially recalled that he once served at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member nearly two decades ago.
According to him, returning to lead the same institution is both humbling and inspiring.
Aina, therefore, pledged to build on its achievements, and position it to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving global educational landscape.
