The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 155 new cases of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to the health and disease control agency in a tweet via its verified Twitter account night of Monday, September 7, it also recorded four more deaths same day.

The new figures bring the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 55,160; at least 43,231 cases have been discharged and 1,061 deaths recorded thus far.

The NCDC stated that the new cases on Monday were reported from 16 states of the Federation.

These are Lagos (42), Plateau (25), Rivers (16), Ebonyi (10), FCT(9), Abia (9), Ogun (9), Osun (7), Katsina (6), Kaduna (6), Ekiti (4), Taraba (4), Edo (3), Anambra (2), Akwa Ibom (2) and Kano (1).

Globally, the novel Coronavirus has killed at least 889,498 people worldwide since the outbreak emerged in China last December, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP at 1100 GMT Monday.

At least 27,172,460 cases of Coronavirus have been registered. Of these, at least 17,892,800 are now considered recovered.

The tallies, using data collected by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organisation (WHO), probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections.

Many countries are testing only symptomatic or the most serious cases.
