Electricity: TCN speaks on maintenance as blackout hits parts of Ibadan

*The Transmission Company of Nigeria announces a planned power outage in several parts of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, for maintenance in order to ensure the power facility continues to operate efficiently and reliably in the affected areas

As part of routine measures to ensure the power facility continues to operate efficiently and reliably, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in several parts of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The development results from the current maintenance work at the Ayede Transmission Substation in the ancient city in South-West Nigeria.

Explaining the rationale for the current development, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs at TCN, in a statement issued Tuesday, May 5, 2026, revealed that a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer would be shut down for routine preventive maintenance between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The company stated the exercise is part of ongoing efforts at ensuring the facility continues to operate efficiently and reliably in the power ecosystem in Nigeria.

Mbah also stated: “The scheduled maintenance will allow our engineers to carry out essential checks and servicing of the transformer to maintain optimal performance.”

IBEDC won’t supply electricity to consumers until…., says TCN

Meanwhile, in view of the temporary shutdown, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in the Express, Industrial, and Oluyole areas during the maintenance period, stated the TCN.

The company further said that normal power supply would be restored to the affected areas once the exercise is completed.
