Air Peace reduces Abuja-London service, notifies passengers of flight delays

Sequel to the reported aviation fuel crisis, Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s indigenous airlines, has warned passengers of possible flight delays due to constraints of the aviation fuel supply, also known as Jet A1, affecting operations nationwide.

The airline, which disclosed this development in a statement at the weekend, said limited availability of Jet A1 fuel has disrupted scheduled departures from some terminals.

NRS clarifies no new tax on vehicles

The ongoing aviation fuel crisis in Nigeria has intensified in recent weeks, driven largely by a sharp increase in prices.

The development is largely attributed to fallouts from the ongoing Middle East crisis.

The price of the Jet A1 commodity has increased from N900 per litre to N3,300 per litre between February and April this year, representing a rise of over 300 percent, according to report.

Air Peace statement noted: “At this time, fuel availability remains limited, which has impacted scheduled departures.

“Please be assured that we are actively engaging with relevant partners to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible and minimise disruptions to your travel plans.

“We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this period.”

Air Peace reduces Abuja-London flights

Besides likely flight delays on domestic routes, the airline also announced a temporary adjustment to its Abuja-London route, reducing the service to three weekly flights until July 1, 2026.

The aviation company said the measure was necessary to maintain safety and operational reliability amid the fuel supply challenges.

It further stated: “Due to the current Jet Al (aviation fuel) supply constraints affecting flight operations nationwide and around the world, we wish to inform you that our Abuja-London service has been temporarily adjusted to three weekly flights until 01 July, 2026.

“This measure is necessary to maintain the highest standards of safety and operational reliability during this period, with full operational frequency on our London service scheduled to resume from 01 July 2026.”

Apologies for disruptions in consumers’ travel plans

Apologising for the disruptions in travel plans, Air Peace also assured passengers that it is actively monitoring the situation and working closely with relevant industry stakeholders.

The aviation firm as well urged affected passengers in the schedule changes to contact its call centre for rescheduling at “no additional cost”.

It said: “As supply conditions improve, we will promptly restore our full schedule and keep you informed with timely updates.”

It is recalled that Nigerian airlines, under the aegis of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), had earlier threatened to suspend operations nationwide from April 20, citing unsustainable operating costs.

The Federal Government, however, intervened, urging airlines to reconsider the planned suspension, promising to engage stakeholders.

Subsequently, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a 30 percent discount on debts owed by domestic airlines to aviation agencies to cushion the impact of the rising aviation fuel cost.
