NYSC urges Corps members to uphold discipline, loyalty and selflessness

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged the 2026 Batch “A” Stream II Corps members to uphold discipline, loyalty, and selflessness throughout their National Service year.

ConsumerConnect gathered Mrs. Martina Shuaibu-Ibrahim, NYSC Coordinator in Niger State, said this Friday, April 24, 2026, at the swearing-in ceremony marking the opening of the orientation course at the NYSC camp in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Mrs. Shuaibu-Ibrahim advised the Corps members on commitment to national development.

She also congratulated the Corps members on completing their academic programmes and mobilisation for the National Service.

The Niger State NYSC Director noted that the orientation course was designed to prepare them physically, mentally, and emotionally for National Service responsibilities.

According to her, the Oath of Allegiance taken by Corps members should guide their conduct during Service, and have a lasting positive influence on their lives beyond the programme.

Total 2,205 Corps members, including those deployed to Niger and those dislodged from the Federal Capital Territory, have been registered for the orientation course in the state.

Justice Halima Abdulmalik, Chief Judge of Niger State, represented by Justice Zainab Sadat, had administered the Oath of Allegiance to the Corps members at the ceremony.

The Niger State NYSC Coordinator further advised the participants to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to gain practical skills that would enhance self-reliance and improve their future economic prospects.

She equally appreciated the Niger State Government for continued support to the scheme, especially in the area of improving camp facilities, and ensuring the safety, welfare of Corps members deployed to the state, agency report said.

Mrs. Shuaibu-Ibrahim, therefore, appealed to stakeholders to also support NYSC programmes aimed at promoting community development, youth empowerment, and national unity through active participation and collaboration across sectors.

Governor Umaru-Bago address Corps members, unveils transformation agenda

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Mohammed Umaru-Bago of Niger State said the NYSC remained a vital instrument for national integration, youth empowerment, and leadership development since its establishment, contributing significantly to unity and development across Nigeria.

Represented at the event by Dr. Nuhu Ngaski, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport Development, Governor Umaru-Bago welcomed the Corps members, and urged them to be ambassadors of hard work, discipline, and innovation.

He likewise encouraged the Corps members to participate in the state’s agricultural transformation agenda, aimed at boosting food production, creating jobs, and enhancing economic growth across communities in the state.

The governor as well assured Corps members of their security and welfare.

Umaru-Bago, however, urged vigilance, respect for host communities, and avoidance of social vices while reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities promptly.
