Borno: Tinubu sympathises with terror attacks victims, vows Nigeria won’t succumb to fear

Following the recent bomb attacks on unarmed residents in Borno State, North-East Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has frowned on the recent news reports from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Tinubu, who stated this in a statement he personally signed and issued Tuesday, March 17, 2026, said the development was “profoundly upsetting”.

The President stated: “I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured, and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.”

ConsumerConnect reports the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reportedly confirmed 23 people dead with 108 other residents injured in the terror attacks in the North-Eastern city.

The Nigerian leader also said: “I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear.

“They are under constant pressure from our brave Armed Forces and security agencies operating in various theatres.”

He equally vowed “we will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.”

According to the President, the Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups.

“Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” stated he.

President directs Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri

Meanwhile, in view of the dastardly terror attacks on the populace in the state, President Tinubu has said he directed Security Service Chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation.

Tinubu noted: “I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured.”

He equally averred that “there is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety.”

The Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces restated: “We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them.

Nigeria will not succumb to fear.”
