The Ministry of Interior on behalf of the Nigerian Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday 20, 2026, as public holidays, to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr.

The commemoration of the annual spiritual event signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Honourable Minister for Interior, who disclosed this development Tuesday, March 17 extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, who disclosed this development in a statement Tuesday, said Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which they emphasised during the holy month.

The statement noted the Minister also urged all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.

Wishing the Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration across the country, Tunji-Ojo  encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly, and extend acts of kindness to the less-privileged in the society.

He as well assured of the Federal Government commitment to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
