The Police said operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in the FCT, working closely with the INTERPOL NCB Accra, recovered a 2020 model Toyota Prado in Accra, Ghanaian capital.

The statement revealed the recovered luxury vehicle, which belongs to a Nigerian Government agency, was stolen during a robbery incident in Abuja.

The Nigeria Police noted the security operatives arrested three suspects, in Ghana, and subsequently, charged them to court in Accra.

ACP Adejobi also said the stolen vehicle had since been returned to Nigeria, and formally, handed over to the affected government agency.

The Force Spokesman further related that in a similar operation, the Police recovered a Toyota Hilux (2018 model) belonging to another Federal Government agency.

The recovered vehicle reported stolen October 18, 2024, from a personnel of the agency in the Utako District of Abuja.

According to Adejobi, following a thorough investigation, and with the aid of INTERPOL NCB Niamey, the vehicle was located in Agadez, Niger Republic.

The Police officially handed over the recovered Toyota Hilux at the Nigeria–Niger border (Ilela/Konni) to a senior representative of the Nigerian Government agency.

The statement noted: “In a related development, the Nigeria Police Force is currently finalising efforts to recover and repatriate two additional vehicles – a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV – stolen in Abuja, in May 2025, and later sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.”

The Nigeria Police encouraged the citizenry to register their vehicles on the Police Electronic Platforms.

This is geared towards to taking necessary precautions to improve the chances of recovery in the unfortunate event of theft.

IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, commended the professionalism and diligence of the operatives involved, the statement noted.

The Police, therefore, assured Nigerians of their commitment to enhancing international policing collaboration.

Egbetokun also expressed appreciation to INTERPOL NCB Accra, INTERPOL NCB Niamey, and the Nigerian High Commission, in Accra, for their crucial support in facilitating the recovery and return of the stolen vehicles to Nigeria.
