The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that it invited Mrs. Aishah Ahmad, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in charge of Financial System Stability.

A competent DSS source, who craved anonymity disclosed that Mrs. Ahmad was not under arrest, but only invited, interrogated and grilled as part of the current probe of the CBN under Mr. Godwin Emefiele, suspended  Governor of the banking sector regulator in the country.

Recall since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered an investigation into the activities of the CBN under Emefieie’s leadership June 2023.

Aside from ongoing court case against Emefiele, the DSS had since invited Kingsley Obiora, a Deputy Governor of the Bankers’  Bank under Emefiele, for questioning since investigations began.

A DSS source said Ms.  Ahmad was also invited to clear her name as investigations continue.

The source reportedly explained: “In the light of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the CBN, all senior officials of the Central Bank are being interviewed by the DSS and the appointed Special Investigator.

“The deputy governors are not exempted from this exercise and have all been called upon to provide essential information at different times.

“It is important to emphasise that this is a standard procedure aimed at assisting the ongoing probe.”

However, Ms. Ahmad’s close family member, who was not authorised to speak on the matter, was quoted to have confirmed and clarified that the Deputy Governor of CBN was home and safe after the Secret Police’s interrogation.

ConsumerConnect reports Mrs. Ahmad is currently a Deputy Governor of the Bank, having been appointed October 6, 2017, replacing Sarah Alade, who retired March in the same year.
