The Federal Government of Nigeria has stated its readiness to reduce importation of drugs into the West African country from reportedly current 60 percent to 40 percent in order to promote the local manufacturing of drugs.

Salma Anas-Ibrahim, Special Adviser (SA) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Health, said the move to this effect is part of the current  administration’s priority agenda.

Anas-Ibrahim disclosed this at a workshop organised to strengthen the World Health Organisation (WHO) Nigeria country cooperation strategy, in Abuja, FCT.

The Presidential aide said the plan is part of President Tinubu’s priority agenda to bridge the gap in country’s health sector.

Anas-Ibrahim also noted other priority areas to include increased and improved access to equal healthcare services, national health insurance for at least 40 percent of Nigeria’s population to ensure all citizens including the vulnerable group are beneficiaries.
