Going down the memory lane on award of contract, construction of Sekumade Road

In regard to the project commissioning, Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on New Media, in a post Saturday, April 1, 2023, related the Federal Government of Nigeria originally awarded the construction of Oba Sekumade Road to Messrs Guffanti in the early ’80s as a single carriageway.

Since then there had been several interventions at different points.

Gawat stated the conversion of the Ikorodu lighter terminal to a container terminal caused a massive increment in truck volume and axle loads caused a rapid deterioration of the Oba Sekumade Road.

He noted Governor Sanwo-Olu, in 2020, however, included Oba Sekumade Road for upgrading to a Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) as part of strategic emergency road rehabilitation, awarded to Messrs Arab Contractors O.A.O. Nigeria Limited and physical construction work commenced in January 2021.

The SSA on New Media said the Lagos Governor assured the residents of Ikorodu LGA of the completion of other road projects across the geo-political division in Lagos State.

According to Gawat, these include the Agric-Isawo Road, Igbogbo Bola Tinubu-Igbe Road, the Adamo-Akanun Agunfoye Road, the Ewu-Elepe to Gberigbe Road & Igbogbo Bayeku Road constructions.
