Dangote: Our business priority is Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in meeting needs

*The Dangote Group of Companies discloses the conglomerate is also creating jobs for millions of Nigerians through direct and indirect production, distribution, and allied services to achieve this objective in the economy

The Dangote Group has restated the company’s priority in business remains ensuring that Nigeria becomes a self-sufficient country in meeting its  needs in production of economic and social services for consumers.

In attaining this target, the conglomerate has disclosed it is also creating jobs for millions of Nigerians through direct and indirect production, distribution, and allied services.

Mr. Abayomi Shittu, Regional Sales Director of Dangote Cement Plc in the South-East, stated this Thursday, March 30, 2023, during the Dangote Special Day at the ongoing 34th Enugu International Trade Fair, in Enugu State, South-East, Nigeria.

Shittu noted that Dangote’s target is to ensure that Nigeria becomes self-sufficient in all the sectors in which it plays, including cement, agriculture, mining and petroleum, Vanguard report said.

Shittu also stated: “Our food subsidiaries, Dangote Sugar Refinery, NASCON Allied Industries (Dangote Salt) and Dangote Rice are providing jobs through various schemes.

“Our continuous efforts to innovate, create value and invest in Nigeria are borne out of our firm belief in the vast economic potential of Nigeria.

“This has also informed our desire to invest massively in states across the country.”

The Regional Sales Director of Dangote Cement further said: “Our food subsidiaries, Dangote Sugar Refinery, NASCON Allied Industries (Dangote Salt) and Dangote Rice are providing jobs through various schemes.

“Dangote Sugar Refinery, through its out-grower scheme has provided jobs to thousands of farmers in the host communities.

“The coming of Dangote Fertiliser has to a great extent helped to change the face of agriculture in Nigeria while the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, when functional will drive the development of ancillary industries which will utilise the byproducts as raw materials.”

The company’s regular participation in major trade fairs across the country is hinged on its belief that it is one of the means of demonstrating its belief, that Chambers of Commerce & Industry occupies a unique position in driving economic development through their activities, said  Shittu.

Speaking on the Fair, Mr. Jasper Nduagwuike, President of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industries and Agriculture (ECCIMA), also said the Chamber was aware of the concerted effort Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President/Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), had made to bring on steam the Dangote Refinery located at Leaking, in Lagos State.

Nduagwuike said refinery project would go a long way in addressing the challenges and problems associated with the availability and cost of refined petroleum products in the West African country.

The ECCIMA President also stated: “The exploits of the Dangote Group shows a great level and high degree of vision, creative thinking, research, innovations, doggedness, hard work and industry which has culminated in what one can describe as the Dangote business and Industry empire today.”
