The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, has disputed an ongoing conversation in the online space, purporting a staff recruitment exercise in the University.

Abiodun Olanrewaju, Spokesman of the University, who noted this in a statement titled, “Beware of Scammers: OAU not Recruiting” and issued Sunday, March 19, 2023, clarified that the institution is not recruiting any staff at the moment.

It is stated that certain Dr. Williams Abah has reportedly been engaging the general public on behalf of the University Management, promising to assist members of the public with employment opportunities in the University its students and admirers fondly call “Great Ife”.

OAU, therefore, described the online conversation regarding a purported recruitment exercise as not only false but devilish, malicious, and a pure scam.

Olanrewaju further stated: “The University does not know nor have any relationship whatsoever with any nebulous Dr. Williams Abah.

“Therefore, anything done or purportedly done on behalf of the University or its Vice Chancellor by the so-called Dr. Williams Abah, with GSM number 08021294368, has nothing to do with the University.”

The statement said: “OAU, as an academic institution, does not engage in secret or clandestine employment, neither would its Vice-Chancellor or any other Principal Officers of the University ask an applicant for any monetary or material gratification.”

The University further stressed that its staff recruitment exercise always follows due process.

Olanrewaju explained: “We place vacancies advertisements in two widely read National Dailies, and the same will be displayed on the University Web site.

“Please, also note that we do not engage the services of an outsider for our staff recruitment exercise.”

The OAU Management urged the Nigerian public, particularly those desperately in need of employment, to not engage in any conversation with anybody or any group.

The statement as well warned that the University does not advertise its staff recruitment exercise on the social media platforms.

OAU warned that “any person or group of persons who transacts, or has transacted any business with him in the name of the University does so at their own risk.”
