Trading-Partners USA, Incorporated, is recalling certain Cybex models Aton, Aton Q, Aton M, Aton 2, and Cloud Q rear-facing infant car seats.

It was learnt the design of the webbing for the central seat belt adjuster allows it to fray, which can reduce the strength of the seat belt.

Subsequently, these affected infant seats were said to have failed to meet the requirements of US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 213, “Child Restraint Systems” and 209, “Seatbelt Assemblies.”

It is also noted that an infant seat belt with insufficient strength may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stated the recall potentially covers 31,080 car seats.

CTP/CYBEX will mail owners a replacement central seat belt adjuster strap assembly and installation instructions, free of charge, agency report said.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by March 13, 2023. Affected infant car seat owners may contact CTP’s Customer Service on 1-877-242-5676.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov, report said.
