Sequel to his annual vacation overseas, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  resumed work in office Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Bank’s Headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.

Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, Director of Corporate Communications at CBN, who disclosed this in a statement, said Emefiele, who had been on leave since December 2022, resumed work with renewed vigour to perform his duty ahead of the first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), meeting in the New Year, scheduled for January 23 to 24.

Nwanisobi stated the CBN Governor remains committed to performing the task before him in line with his oath of office and the policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The CBN Director of Corporate Communications also thanked the Nigerian consumers for keeping faith with the Bankers’ Bank.

He as well urged the people to continue to support the CBN policies aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and economy in general.

It is, however, noted the news of Emefiele’s resumption is coming hours after media reports noted that operatives of the Department of Security Service (DSS) afternoon Monday, January 16, invaded the CBN Headquarters, in Abuja.

The DSS operatives, who arrived in 20 vehicles  condoned off the office of the embattled governor of the apex bank in the West African country, according to report.

The operatives also barred all staff of the Bank from gaining access into Emefiele’s office in the process.

However, Peter Afunanya, Public Relations Officer (PRO) at DSS, National Headquarters, Abuja, in a statement issued later Monday, however, described some viral reports, which also claimed that the CBN Governor had been arrested as “fake news”.

It is recalled the CBN Governor has been having a running battle with the DSS over allegation of terrorism financing in recent weeks.

The DSS earlier had sought a court order to arrest Emefiele, who had been out of the country on annual leave.

But a Federal High Court, December 2022, had refrained the Department of State Services from arresting, inviting, or detaining the Governor of CBN.
