Sequel to the aviation Union’s recent protest and strike, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) has ended its industrial action against Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA2) terminal, in Ikeja, Lagos.

ConsumerConnect reports the ATSSSAN members later Tuesday, November 1 suspended their strike over the sacking of 34 members of the union without due process.

Mr. Francis Akinjole, Deputy General Secretary  of the union, disclosed this development in a statement issued Wednesday, November 2, 2022, in Lagos.

Earlier Tuesday, there was heavy traffic on the link road leading to the international terminal when ATSSSAN members shut down the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA2) terminal in the early hours November 1.

The altercation between the union and BASL affected air passengers as several of them were forced to miss their flights due to the actions of the union.

Local airlines, including Ibom Air and Air Peace were compelled to suspend flights operations, and later sent messages to passengers to intimate them with the development.

Akinjole said that the union ended the strike following the intervention of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airport Authority (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and other airport security agencies at a meeting in Lagos.

“The  strike that was embarked upon on November 1 against the Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited has been called off pursuant the acceptance by the company to recall the laid off members of our union and an undertaking to pay their salaries,” said the ATSSSAN Deputy General Secretary.

He added: “The  agreement was reached at a meeting empanelled by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, NCAA, FAAN, NAMA and airport security agencies.”
