Sabotage: US DOJ slams $778m fine on Lafarge for supporting terrorism in Syria

For the company’s alleged corporate irresponsibility in supporting terrorist groups to disrupt public peace, French cement giant Lafarge SA will pay a $778 million fine to the United States (US) Department of Justice (DOJ).

Lafarge and its parent Holcim Group, which announced this development in a statement issued Tuesday, October 18, 2022, said that the American authorities fined the cement manufacturing giant for aiding terror groups in promoting mayhem during the Syrian civil war.

Lafarge SA and its defunct subsidiary Lafarge Cement Syria “have agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiring to provide material support to designated foreign terrorist organisations in Syria from August 2013 to October 2014.”
