Samsung phone consumers complain of slowdown in 10,000 apps, company investigates issue

*The mobile phone giant says the malfunctioning apps affect a variety of games and information from Nintendo, Netflix, YouTube, and Facebook among others

Samsung phone consumers are tackling the phone giant over concerns that internal performance limits built into their mobile devices are responsible for throttling over 10,000 apps.

ConsumerConnect learnt that the issue is connected to Samsung’s Game Optimising Service (GOS), and it is being investigated by the company.

However, the company says it is on the case, but has not disclosed when a fix will be issued to affected consumers, The Verge report said.

The affected malfunctioning apps include a variety of games and information apps from bigger companies, such as Nintendo, Netflix, YouTube, and Facebook.

Several of Samsung’s own apps, such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass, have experienced slowdowns as well, report stated.

Reports have also suggested that the likely motive behind the throttling is Samsung’s attempt to improve the device battery life.

It is noted this latest consumer experience is Samsung’s first choking brouhaha.

In 2018, the company was fined millions of dollars for slowing down smartphones through software updates, report said.

Samsung looks to address the issue

Meanwhile, the company has issued a statement in defence of Samsung’s Game Optimising Service.

Kelly Yeo in a statement   said that the company planned to roll out a software update “soon” so users will have control of an app’s performance, but not the company.

Yeo stated: “Our priority is to deliver the best mobile experience for consumers.

“GOS has been designed to help game apps achieve a great performance while managing device temperature effectively. GOS does not manage the performance of non-gaming apps.”

The company also urged the affected Samsung phone owners to be patient for the time being.

The company did not offer a timeline as to when the update will be available, report added.
