How Aleogho Dokpesi impacts Nigerian media and tech ecosystem ─Bayero Agabi

One of Africa’s leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) broadcasters, Dr. Bayero Agabi, has described Engr. (Chief) Aleogho Dokpesi as a serial innovator whose impact is felt positively in both the media and technology ecosystem in Nigeria.

Speaking to reporters at the lecture to honour Engr. Dokpesi at 70 with the theme, “Technology ─ A Missing Link To Africa’s Development”, Dr. Bayero said it should be noted that Engr. Dokpesi not only pioneered the digital and 24-hour broadcasting in the country, he also played a significant role in the advancement of ICT sector of the Nigerian economy.

For instance, Dokpesi was a pioneer member of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), and besides, he secured a licence for Internet services called DAAR Net, said the ace ICT broadcaster.

Agabi, on the occasion, also stated that aside from these feats, the former Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc  as well encouraged the first ICT and technology show in in the West African country.

He simply described the ICT and tech show as “a programme that has long become Africa’s leading tech show with well over 100 awards, and the only one to have won the prestigious UNECA award twice for balanced reportage and research excellence.

“In fact, writing the history of broadcasting, media and technology in Nigeria will not be complete without Aleogho Dokpesi’s name mentioned.”

According to him, Dokpesi is fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), who equally played a key role at the last national conference of the professional body, especially on the Tech Committee.

Agabi further described Dokpesi is a distruptor, innovator, and pride of the African continent.

The event was attended and chaired by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice-President of Nigeria; Mr. Peter Obi, erstwhile Governor of Anambra State; Timi Alaibe,  Senators from the National Assembly, and dignitaries from both the public and private sectors of country’s  economy.
