Youth Empowerment: Lagos approves N290m for students’ bursaries, scholarships

As part of his administration’s belief in advancing the cause of youth development in the state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has approved a sum of N290million for 2021 bursaries and scholarships for indigenes in tertiary institutions of learning in Nigeria.

ConsumerConnect reports Omotayo Fakolujo, Executive Secretary of Lagos Scholarship Board, in a recent statement announced that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approval of the fund for the scheme underscored the state government’s commitment to sustaining bursary and scholarship programmes amid the current economic situation in the country.

Fakolujo stated the Sanwo-Olu administration recognises the pivotal role education plays in defining the growth and advancement of Lagos, fondly called the Centre of Excellence.

The statement also noted: “Mr. Governor is committed to ensuring that Lagosians are empowered through education to contribute productively to the local and global economies.”

According to Lagos Scholarship Board, in the breakdown, N137,825,091 was released for 599 for local scholarship beneficiaries, while N157,093,205 would be expended on 4,341 beneficiaries of bursary.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has urged the prospective youth beneficiaries of the bursary and scholarship programmes to exercise patience, as it finalises necessary arrangements to ensure hitch-free disbursement of the fund, Fakolujo stated.

He added that the government would soon invite all beneficiaries to present themselves for documentation.
