Rip Off: Kogi Governor lambasts Chinese contractors over substandard projects

Vowing never to accept any shabby quality public works in the state, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has criticised the Chinese contractors handling renovation of the Specialist Hospital, in Lokoja, the state capital, for executing a poor quality contracts besides delaying the delivery of the project.

ConsumerConnect learnt Governor Bello, who disclosed this development during a recent tour of ongoing projects in Lokoja, said that his administration would never accept such shabby quality of work, which he described as “largely below the standard of the project in his government.”

Bello also expressed displeasure with the ministries and parastatals overseeing the project.

It was unimaginable that his administration was spending so much funds on such low quality of work.

The declared that the affected contractors have breached part of the terms on project delivery.

Bello reportedly gave the contractors till December 2021 to ensure that they correct every shabby work done while promising to hold those who recommended and certified the company for the job responsible.

He, nonetheless, expressed satisfaction on the quality of jobs done at Ganaja Flyover and the GYB Modern Science School.

The Governor also inspected other projects during the working tour, including the River Niger embankment projects along the Old Market, Kogi State Specialist Hospital renovation, GYB Modern Science School, Adankolo, and others, according to report.
