In an effort at advancing government’s efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery to the citizenry in this fast-paced digital era in the West African country, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS),  Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), among other industry players are expected to promote e-Government adoption at the forthcoming Nigeria e-Government Summit 2021 in Lagos.

ConsumerConnect reports Mr. Ajibola Olude, Executive Secretary of ATCON, in a recent statement bearing the invitation to Nigeria e-Government Summit 2021, said that the event is scheduled to hold Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, in Ikeja, Lagos State.

E-government (or e-gov) refers to the use of Internet technology as a platform for exchanging information, providing services and transacting with citizens, businesses, and other arms of government, according to UN e-Government Survey (2004, 2005, 2008).

The theme of the event, aimed at promoting the adoption of e-Government across the government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), is: “eGovernment Adoption in Nigeria: Opportunities and Challenges”.

According to ATCON, “DigiServe Network Services Limited, in partnership with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) is pleased to invite you and your organisation to the Nigeria e-Government Summit 2021.”

Olude further noted this year’s event promises to be more exciting than the last year’s edition, which was acclaimed to be very successful and with huge positive feedback.

“A special addition to this year event is the invitation of experts from countries where eGovernment has been adjudged to be successful to give country case studies.

“We are confident that the Nigeria eGovernment Summit 2021 will add huge value to participants, sponsors, speakers and exhibitors,” he stated.

Similarly, DigiServe Network Services Limited, organisers of the event, said the event would discuss the need to reposition the Nigerian Government agencies and parastatals for them to take advantage of advances in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to improve service delivery to Nigerian consumers.

Mr. Lanre Ajayi, Executive Chairman of DigiServe Network Services, said this year’s summit would focus on opportunities and challenges of e-Government adoption in Nigeria.

Ajayi stated: “With the advent of democracy, expectations of citizens from governments are higher.

“Citizens rate their governments largely on how efficient and effective government services are delivered to them.

“E-Government, which is essentially about deployment of technologies in government processes and service delivery to citizens, provides immense opportunities for governments to deliver services to citizens in a most effective and efficient manner.”

According to him, the Nigeria e-Government Summit 2021, which is third in the series, will propose policies, strategies and solutions required by governments to deepen technologies into their service delivery processes.

Invited agencies of government at federal and state levels will showcase use cases of e-Government in their domains, while international experts will share international best practices and use cases of e-Government in selected countries.

He also noted for this year’s edition, experts and top government officials from various government MDAs have been invited to share their experiences.

ATCON also stated the event taking place in Lagos would hold in full compliance with the approved COVID-19 protocols in the country.

The Association hinted the Nigeria e-Government Summit 2021 would feature live streaming, which will be made available on Zoom and Facebook to duly registered delegates

Participants are, therefore, encouraged to register for participation in the event at: www.egovernment.ng/register.
