As a long-term strategy targeted at providing for the teeming youths of the ‘Centre of Excellence’, the Lagos State Government is planning to embark on a 30-year development plan for Lagosians.

Mr. Samuel Egube, Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, in Lagos State, disclosed the present administration would soon unveil a 30-year development plan.

According to a post on the state Web site, Egube, who revealed this during his guest appearance on ‘Lagos Today’, an LTV programme, while discussing the development, said the proposal is focused on providing for the teeming youths of the state.

The Commissioner called on the youngsters to share, contribute and participate in the various developmental programmes, policies and projects of the Lagos State Government.

This is because they are beneficiaries, he stated, as he encouraged them to be law-abiding and always exhibit good morals.

On the rationale for the fresh decades-long plan, Egube said the new developmental plan is necessary as the existing plan is meant to serve from Y2012 to Y2025, and will end soon.

He noted that the new plan is aimed at strategically positioning Lagos as the Economic and Social hub of Africa in the coming years.

According to the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, the emphasis is to ensure that Lagos is seen as a clean, safe and secure city that will not only harness business growth but also a place where every human being will desire to live, engage in businesses and thrive.

He urged Lagosians to subscribe to the 30-year developmental plan, as he stressed that the vision and goals of the plan are attainable because the present administration has continued to successfully implement the policies and programmes outlined in the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda.

These include the recently commissioned Agege Pen-Cinema Flyover and several other ongoing projects such as the new Mercy Children Hospital, the Red and Blue Rail lines among others, said he.

Egube enjoined youths to shun every act of vandalism, thuggery, and cultism which will not bring much development to Lagos State, while maintaining that nothing can be achieved in a hostile environment.
