That is the appointment of Prof. Aina, one of its distinguished alumni, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
ConsumerConnect had reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, May 2026, approved Prof. Aina’s appointment to succeed Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure ends July 31, 2026.
The authorities said Aina’s appointment had “generated excitement” within Obafemi Awolowo University community, particularly in relation to the institution’s commemoration of its 65 years of academic excellence and national impact.
The theme of the anniversary celebration was: “Legacy of Excellence, Future of Impact”.
Aina, who clocks 40 July this year, is set to become the youngest Registrar ever in the history of JAMB, and one of the youngest Professors of Computer Engineering in the West African country.
His emergence, OAU stated, is widely seen as another testament to the University’s long-standing reputation for producing leaders across strategic sectors in Nigeria.
Prior to his latest appointment, Aina as a Professor of Computer Engineering at OAU, has built a strong reputation in digital systems, examination technology, and educational reforms.
The University authorities also acknowledged that Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme days.
That was when he served with the examination body, and gained firsthand experience in its operations.
Now, years later, Prof. Aina returns to head the same public examination institution.
Aina holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom (UK).
He also obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security with a Ph.D in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He equally attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School (LBS) of the Pan-Atlantic University (PAU).

He is also a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
For several alumni of Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina’s appointment represents more than a personal achievement.
It is being viewed as a symbolic moment for OAU, fondly called “Great Ife”, as it reflects on its contributions to national development over the last six decades.
