Hyundai recalls 128,948 Veloster, Sonata Hybrid, Santa Fe vehicles over faulty engine

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 128,948 model year 2015-2016 Velosters, 2012 Santa Fe vehicles, model year 2011-2013 and model year 2016 Sonata Hybrids.

According to the company, the connecting rod bearings inside the engine may wear prematurely, which over time can result in engine damage.

It stated that a damaged engine can increase the risk of a fire, or it can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

In connection with what to do in correcting the fault, Hyundai will notify affected owners, and dealers will inspect the engine.

If bearing damage is found, the engine will be replaced, report said.

Dealers also will install a software update containing a new Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). Repairs will be performed free of charge.

The current recall is expected to begin January 22, 2021, while owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service on (855) 371-9460.

Hyundai’s number for this recall is 198.
