Electricity Bills: IKEDC warns consumers against failure to submit tax ID details by February 20

*The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company urges electricity consumers against failure to submit their required tax identification (Tax ID) details on or before February 20, 2026, to be able to receive further electricity bills in line with the provision in the new Nigeria Tax Act (NTA 2025)

The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has cautioned that electricity consumers, who fail to submit their required tax identification (Tax ID) details on or before February 20, 2026, may be unable to receive further electricity bills.

The electricity Distribution Company (DisCo), which stated this in a public notice posted Wednesday, February 11 directed power consumers to provide Tax ID details by the date in line with the new Nigeria Tax Act (NTA 2025).

ConsumerConnect reports the power provider also affirmed that such acceptable details include a Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Registration Number, or National Identification Number (NIN).

The IKEDC, also known as Ikeja Electric, equally warned that failure of any electricity consumers to submit the details could result in service suspension after the stipulated deadline.

It further explained the Nigeria Tax Act (2025), which came into effect January 1 this year, mandates that all invoices, including electricity bills, must contain at least a consumer tax identification detail henceforth.

The DisCo further stated: “To enable us to comply with this statutory requirement and reflect the information on your January 2026 and subsequent bills, we kindly request that you provide any one of the above details by completing the form below.”

IKEDC said in the notice: “Please note that the deadline for submission is 20th February, 2026.

“In line with the provisions of the Act, any invoice issued without this information is considered invalid.”

The DisCo warned: “Consequently, failure to provide the required details may prevent us from generating your electricity bill and could lead to the suspension of service after the stated deadline.”

It as well expressed appreciation for power consumers’ cooperation and prompt adherence to the directive.
