Nigeria, world’s largest solar panel manufacturer ink MoU for local production, job creation

As part of efforts at Nigeria has struck a deal with the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer for the establishment of its factory in Nigeria to boost local production of solar equipment

ConsumerConnect learnt the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) had facilitated the landmark deal with LONGi of China on behalf of the Federal Government.

The deal consummated was during a follow up visit of the Federal Government’s delegation to China after both parties earlier in the year signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), report said.

Under the partnership, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer agreed to establish a thousand mega Watts capacity solar panel production factory in Nigeria, to meet the growing demand for renewable energy.

Deal with LONGi a significant milestone in renewable energy, says ECN Director-General

Speaking on the deal with the LONGi of China, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of ECN, explained the deal marked a significant milestone in the renewable energy landscape, and aligned with Nigeria’s efforts at expanding solar manufacturing capacity.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria is currently implementing the current administration’s “Renewed Hope Solarisation” programme.

It is noted the initiative is aimed at accelerating deployment of solar mini grids to public institutions across the country, and establishment of solar panel production factory

These will boost implementation of the intervention as well as create jobs for Nigerians, stated Dr. Abdullahi.
