The United States (US) Government has dismissed the claim of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.

Massad Boulos, a Senior Adviser to US President Donald Trump on Arab and African Affairs, said that Boko Haram had killed more Muslims in its attacks in the West African country.

‎Boulos stated this in an interview Friday, October 17, 2025, following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the sidelines of this year’s Aqaba Process Summit, in Rome, Italy.

ConsumerConnect reports Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hosted the international summit.

The summit focused on addressing insecurity across West Africa and the wider Sahel region, with leaders from Africa, the Middle East, and Europe in attendance.

‎The US Presidential aide was also quoted to have said “terrorism has no colour or religion.”

He urged unified and holistic approach to combating terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria.

Boulos’ latest comments were sequel to a US lawmaker’s recent call for sanctions on Nigeria over alleged Christian persecution, and to designate the country a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC).

‎He asserted: ‎“Those who know the terrain (Nigeria) well know that terrorism has no colour and no religion and no tribe.

‎“People of all religions and all tribes are dying as a result of terrorist acts, but it’s very unfortunate.”

‎The US Government’s top official further explained the American country’s position: ‎“We even know that Boko Haram and ISIS are killing more Muslims than Christians.

“People are suffering from all sorts of backgrounds. “This is not specifically targeted about one group or the other.”

The envoy, nonetheless, acknowledged that Nigeria’s North-Central region has experienced deadly attacks, with many Christian casualties in recent times.

On US-Nigeria collaboration against terrorism

Boulos, during his meeting with President Tinubu, also emphasised the strategic importance of deeper US-Nigeria collaboration to tackle terrorism, and protect civilian lives across the country.

‎He said: ‎“However, any loss of life is one too many, and we should work together in partnership to put an end to this.”

Despite his acknowledgement that Nigeria’s North-Central region has experienced deadly attacks lately, Boulos asserted “but definitely it’s not something that we can say is specifically targeted about a specific group.”

He equally described Nigeria as a diverse nation, a melting pot of ethnicities and religions coexisting within one Federation.

Boulos: Tinubu administration’s efforts at security yielding results

‎Recognising the recent efforts by the Tinubu administration to improve security, Boulos stated such efforts are beginning to yield positive results.

‎He, therefore, assured Nigeria of continued US support for Nigeria’s security and counterterrorism efforts, moving forward.
