Nigerian Army redeploys Maj-Gen C.R. Nnebeife, appoints new GOC 2 Division Ibadan

Following the Nigerian Government’s recent creation of four new Divisions to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture, the Nigerian Army (NA) Monday, August 3, 2026, effected a major leadership change at its 2 Division Headquarters, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, as Major-General Auwalu Mahmuda assumed command as the 56th General Officer Commanding (GOC) at a handover ceremony held at the Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, in Ibadan.

Major-General Auwalu Mahmuda, succeeds Major-General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, outgoing GOC 2 Division Ibadan, who recently led the historic, clinical offensive against terrorists cum kidnappers, leading to the rescue of the 44 school pupils and teachers of Oriire Local Government Area of the state from the Old Oyo Park Forest.

Nnebeife moves to head new 10 Division Taraba

ConsumerConnect reports the Nigerian Army Command has redeployed Major-General Nnebeife to head the newly created 10 Division, in Jalingo, Taraba State, North-East region of the country.

In his maiden address at the handover ceremony, Major-General Mahmuda, new GOC 2 Division Ibadan, pledged to consolidate recent operational gains, and strengthen security across the Division’s area of responsibility.

The new GOC also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him.

He described his appointment as a rare privilege, and a call to greater service to Nigeria.

He further pledged to build on the achievements recorded by his predecessor, saying the 2 Division would remain focused on professionalism, operational effectiveness, and the protection of lives and property of Nigerians.

Major-General Mahmuda as well lauded Major-General Nnebeife for his leadership and the milestones recorded during his tenure.

The new GOC assured that  Officers and soldiers that the momentum 2 Division has already established would be sustained.

Nnebeife bids 2 Division Ibadan goodbye

In his farewell remarks, Major-General Nnebeife expressed appreciation to the Military High Command for the opportunity to command one of the Nigerian Army’s foremost divisions, in Ibadan

The ex-GOC of 2 Division Ibadan also thanked General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), who appointed him as GOC while serving as Chief of Army Staff, as well as the current Chief of Army Staff for his continued confidence in him.

The outgoing Commander noted that since assuming office August 19, 2025, the Division had recorded some notable operational successes.

These, he stated, included several coordinated missions that culminated in the successful rescue operation of 44 Oriire students and teachers from the Old Oyo Old Park July 10 this year.

He attributed the achievements to the dedication, professionalism and sacrifices of Officers and soldiers, as well as the cooperation of Commanders and Staff Officers across the Division.

It is noted that Major-General Nnebeife prepares to take charge of the newly established 10 Division, in Taraba State, he urged personnel of the 2 Division Ibadan to give his successor the same loyalty, support and cooperation they extended to him while there.

The Commanding Officer also expressed confidence that the Military formation would continue to achieve greater operational successes under its new leadership.
