As the scheduled maintenance gets underway at its Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission substation, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power disruption in parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi and Yobe states, as well as Gazaoua in the Niger Republic.
Ndidi Mbah, Spokesperson of TCN, noted this development in a statement issued Saturday, June 27, 2026, said the maintenance exercise was scheduled to hold Sunday, June 28.

The power company also revealed that the planned outage would enable its contractor to continue the ongoing upgrade of the 330kV Bus II jumpers.
The company further said the temporary outage would help in replacement of existing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors to strengthen the national transmission network and improve power reliability.
The Spokesperson announced the maintenance work would temporarily affect electricity supply to customers served by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), parts of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) respectively.
The statement further noted: “As a result, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and some part of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) will be unable to off-take power for distribution to their customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States, as well as Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and also Gazaoua in the Niger Republic.”
The current upgrade forms part of efforts at reinforcing the transmission infrastructure in Nigeria while enhancing the reliability and stability of electricity supply across the affected areas in the country.
