For allegedly posing as medical doctors in a foreign land, the Nigeria Police has arraigned certain Huzhi Nen and Zhang Chuanhong, who are Chinese nationals, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

It was learnt the two immigrants, who were arraigned Wednesday were arrested by the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police.

They suspects were docked on a five count charge of “impersonation as medical practitioners and recklessly giving medical treatment to patients without licence of operation leading to the death of several victims,” Leadership report stated.

The Police claimed that the defendants committed the purported crime between January 28, 2017 and October 31, 2020, at No. 8, Adeyeri Close, Off Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

The foreigners were said to have been recklessly giving medical treatment to patients without operational licence, leading to several deaths of victims in the process.

Nosa Uhumwango, Police counsel, stated the defendants with the intent to defraud did falsely present themselves as qualified medical practitioners, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The foreigners who were arraigned before Magistrate A.O. Adigun however pleaded not guilty to charge, when a Chinese Interpreter read the charges to them.

Subsequently, the prosecutor asked for a trial date pointing out that the police had three witnesses in court.

Meanwhile, B.E. Lana the defence counsel, has urged the court to grant them bail on very liberal terms, noting that the defendants did not abuse the administrative bail granted to them by Police during the investigation.

In a related development, three Chinese citizens were kidnapped in Akere village in Atakunmosa West Local Government Area of Osun State Monday, February 1, 2021.

A policeman attached to the Chinese was killed by the attackers, according to report.

A source said there was some bickering over wages between the expatriates and some labourers which snowballed into a major crisis.

A source quoted General Bashir Adewinbi, Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun, who confirmed the incident as saying “there was an altercation between those Chinese and some labourers in the area, and the gunmen capitalised on the situation to carry out their plan.

“We have been trailing them for days now but have not found them. They are demanding N500 million as ransom.

The Amotekun Corps Commander disclosed “one policeman was killed during the attack and they abducted three Chinese.

“We have drafted our men to the area to arrest the perpetrators and ensure the safety of those that were kidnapped.”
