*Consumers have reported that the blades detached while working, causing injuries and property damage

Due to a problem that could pose a danger to consumers of the product, King of Fans, a distributor based out of Ft. Lauderdale, in Florida, United States, is recalling approximately 190,000 of its Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor ceiling fans.

It was learnt the company had received reports of the fan blades detaching while in use, which can send the objects flying at potentially dangerous speeds.

Out of 47 reported incidents, two involved the blades striking consumers and four led to property damage.

In its recall notice on hazardous fans, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says consumers who own one or more of these ceiling fans should stop using them immediately and check to see if the model they have is prone to this hazard.

The recalled ceiling fans bear the UPC numbers listed below, but consumers can also visit King of Fans’ Web site here for more identifying product information: 081292519186;  081292519193; 081292519195; and  081292519188.

The recalled ceiling fans were manufactured in China and sold at Home Depot stores, and through the retailer’s online store, from April 2020 through October 2020 for around $150.

Consumers who have a recalled fan are urged to contact King of Fans for a free replacement.

The latter half of 2020 hasn’t been kind to ceiling fan makers. In October, Westinghouse Lighting recalled several thousand of its ceiling fans products due to cracks and breaks that could develop in fan blades, creating an impact injury hazard.

HKC-US also recalled 280,000 of its Harbor Breeze Kingsbury ceiling fans due to light globes that were prone to falling out of the products’ housing; this led to several laceration injuries.
