As the Federal Government of Nigeria presented a N400billion proposal to the National Assembly (NASS) for the purchase of the COVID-19 vaccines for immunising the citizenry, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, President of the Senate, has said the vaccines would be administered free of charge to Nigerians whenever they become available.

The Senate President in his Christmas message to Nigerians and made available to journalists by Ola Awoniyi, his media aide, made the pledge Thursday, December 24, 2020.

Lawan disclosed that the Federal Government had presented a N400billion proposal to the National Assembly for the purchase of the vaccines for the citizens.

Nobody in the country would be shortchanged in the distribution and application of the vaccines when available in the country, he assured.

He explained that NASS in consultation with the relevant agencies would ensure due diligence in the procurement and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines when they arrive in the country.

Lawan stated: “This would ensure that all Nigerians have equitable access to inoculation against the stubborn virus.”

He urged Nigerians to observe the COVID-19 protocols as they celebrate Christmas.

Lawan said the ravaging pandemic would soon be a thing of the past.

ConsumerConnect reports Dr. Sani Aliyu, National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, while featuring on a private television programme monitored Wednesday, in Lagos, had revealed that the COVID-19 vaccines would be made available to Nigerians free of charge.

Over 40 million Nigerians would be vaccinated through the GAVI arrangement, said Dr. Aliyu.
