Alumni laud governors over asset sharing as Osun renames LAUTECH teaching hospital

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Alumni Association, Abuja Chapter, has lauded Governors Seyi Makinde and Adegboyega Oyetola of Oyo and Osun states of Nigeria, for the resolution of the hitherto lingering crisis in the university.

Dr. Toyin Ajenifujah-Solebo, the Chairperson the Abuja Chapter, in a statement said: “We are glad to see that the impasse between the two states, which had disrupted the academic life of the students, is finally laid to rest.

“We appreciate the states for their efforts and sacrifices in supporting the university for 30 years until this point in the history of the school.”

Ajenifujah-Solebo state this is “a step in the right direction to redirect and ensure that the school returns to its glorious academic excellence.

“With Oyo State having full ownership of the school, we would want Governor Makinde to review the master plan of the institution and ensure that it is adhered to.”

She also stated that the development of the school must be in accordance with the dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers.

“We commiserate with the governor on the death of his mother, Mama Abigail Makinde. We pray for the governor and the family to be comforted at this trying time, added the alumna.

Femi Ajiga, Publicity Secretary of the association, urged the workforce of the institution to should do everything within their power to ensure that the school returns to the path of excellence.

In the same vein, following the recent dissolution of the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology between Osun and Oyo states, the Osun State Government, at the weekend, announced the taking over of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital and the College of Health Sciences in Osogbo by the Osun State University.

The State Government has also approved the immediate renaming of the teaching hospital to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), Osogbo.

It was gathered that the decision was sequel to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to effect a new management structure of the hospital and LAUTECH by Governors Oyetola and Makinde.

in a statement said the Osun LAUTECH Committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. Olu Aina, the new UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital would complement the main teaching hospital currently under construction.

The Commissioner for Education said: “The Osun State Government has approved the renaming of former LAUTECH Teaching Hospital as UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), Osogbo, with immediate effect.

“All consultants and other members of staff of the College of Health Sciences, as well as the teaching hospital in Osogbo, are assured of job security under the new arrangement as nobody will suffer loss of job or income as a result of the separation of ownership.

“The government wishes to advise staff and students of Osun extraction in Ogbomoso campus of LAUTECH to please remain there as their interests have been well protected by the MoU signed by the two governors and there is no reason for any member of staff to panic as their rights, privileges and duties will be dictated by the terms of their contract of employment.
