NYSC member, 5 others feared dead as hoodlums raid warehouses in Taraba

As the gangsters defied the state government’s curfew to unleash attacks on people and assets, no fewer than six people including a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member died in a stampede as hoodlums vandalised the Taraba State Government warehouses in Jalingo, the state capital.

It was learnt the late Corp member, whose identify is yet to be released by the NYSC authorities, was said to be on terminal leave before losing his life in the stampede.

Aside from the government warehouses along the FGGC Road, TSTC Park and THU Road, the hoodlums also destroyed other warehouses and businesses belonging to private individuals.

Haruna Manu, State Deputy Governor, had announced the imposition of curfew in Jalingo beginning from 11.00p.m. Saturday to 8.00a.m. Monday, October 26, but the curfew order was defied, as the hoodlums stormed the NYSC Camp along Wukari Road where mattresses, chairs, deep freezers, and other items were taken away, according to report.

Educational institutions including Yaggai Schools, and Red Star Group of Schools owned by Chief Uche Obi were vandalised other private business outfits the area.

The warehouse located at TSTC Park, Keke NAPEP, generators, water pumping machines, exquisite doors were among the items stolen by the rampaging hoodlums.

Report further indicated some of the hoodlums even sold a Keke just outside the warehouse at the sum of N50,000, while a carton of noodles was being sold for a N1,000 only.

However, an attempt by the criminals to vandalise the ICT centre of the Taraba State University was frustrated by the arrival of security agents who shot sporadically into the air to disperse the hoodlums.
