Government approves 5 new mega unity schools for Kano emirates

*Each local government will present 20 candidates for exams per arm, for selection of 10 best students, says Muhammad Garba, Honourable Commissioner for Information

In an effort at expanding the frontiers of knowledge in the state, the Kano State Government of Nigeria has endorsed the establishment of five mega unity schools in the five Emirates for 2021/2022 academic session.

Muhammad Garba, Honourable Commissioner for Information, , who briefed reporters on the project, stated that admissions into the schools, which start with four arms of classes ranging from JSS I, JSS II and JSS III, would be on merit through an examination.

ConsumerConnect reports the Commissioner stressed that each local government would present 20 candidates for exams per arm, where the 10 best students would be selected.

Garba said: “This means 80 students are expected to be presented by each local government for the four classes.”
The Information Commissioner disclosed the Kano State Executive Council had also approved N127.1 million for payment of compensation to properties owners for the construction of primary school along Kwanar Ganduje (Masallacin Mariya), Sharada Quarters.

The Council as well approved the contract for flood control at Gaida, Kuka Uku along Madobi Junction to Panshekara Road at a cost of N26.1 million.

Besides, the state government also okayed the release of N18.4 million for the construction of administrative block and public convenience at Na’ibawa Terminus.

Likewise, the government approved N5 million for the Kani7tate Transport Authority (KASTA) as workers salary and maintenance of vehicles.

Kano State Government also ratified contract worth N280.5 million and release of 50 per cent advance payment of N140.2 million for the upgrade of Gidan Shettima to serve as the five Emirate Council’s headquarters in Kano City.
