ICPC arrests 25 VIO, FRSC men for driver’s licence, vehicle documents fraud

For alleged infractions in connection with driving licences and vehicle particulars for consumers, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested 25 officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Motor Vehicle Licensing Authority in Lagos State.

Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, ICPC Spokesperson, in a statement Thursday, August 27 noted that the Commission received information that officials were conniving with touts to extort money from applicants before their driving licences and vehicle particulars were processed in the state.

The operation, which was carried out in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and FRSC, was conducted in licensing centres in Ikeja, Somolu, Eti-Osa, and Anthony Ojo, Oshodi, University of Lagos, Surulere, Agege and Coker in Lagos, said Mrs. Ogugua.

She in the statement that “various sums of money and several incriminating documents and equipment were retrieved from the suspects during the operation.”

The spokesperson disclosed that the arrested officials have been granted administrative bail, and would be arraigned after investigations.
