The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has expressed condolences to the family of late Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya).

The deceased, mother of Dr. Malachy Agbo, former President of GOCOP and current Enugu State Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication, died Friday, May 8, 2026, at Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria.

Malam Danlami Nmodu, mni, President, and Sufuyan Ojeifo, General Secretary of GOCOP respectively, in a statement on behalf of the entire GOCOP family, Sunday, May 10, said “please accept our heartfelt condolences.”

The statement noted: “We join you, your family, and the people of Ohodo community and Amufi village in mourning the loss of a matriarch whose life was defined by humility, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.

“From your statement, it is clear that your mother was more than a parent—she was a devoted Catholic, a compassionate mother, and a pillar of strength whose philanthropic activities and community-centered initiatives touched countless lives.”

GOCOP also stated: “The glowing tributes from family, friends, associates, and community leaders speak to a legacy of deep faith, peaceful disposition, and selfless dedication to the welfare of others.

“We know that her passing leaves a profound vacuum, but we take solace in the enduring impact of her kindness, guidance, and motherly counsel.”

Nmodu and Ojeifo said: “May that legacy provide comfort to you and your family in this difficult time.

“We pray that the Almighty God grants Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo eternal rest and gives you, the Agbo family, and all who mourn the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

“Please be assured of our prayers and solidarity as you make arrangements for her funeral and burial.”

Dr. Agbo announces mother’s passing

Earlier, Dr. Malachy Agbo, Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication, in Enugu State, in a statement on behalf of the entire family on Sunday, had announced the passing of their beloved matriarch, Mrs. Agbo (née Ortuanya).

Dr. Agbo disclosed that his mother passed on at Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, after a brief illness on Friday, May 8, 2026.

He described late Mrs. Agbo as a devoted Catholic, compassionate mother, and a pillar of strength to her family and the wider community.

The statement noted that late Mrs. Agbo was widely admired for “her humility, generosity, unpretentiousness, and unwavering commitment to the service of humanity.”

According to Agbo, throughout her lifetime, she positively impacted several lives through her philanthropic activities and community-centered initiatives, particularly in Ohodo community and her Amufi village, where she remained a respected figure and source of inspiration.

He also stated: “Family members, friends, associates, and community leaders have continued to pay glowing tributes to the deceased, remembering her deep faith in God, peaceful disposition, unrelenting spirit and dedication to the welfare of others.

“They noted that her passing has created a profound vacuum, not only within the Agbo family but also among those who benefited from her kindness, guidance, and motherly counsel.”

Dr. Agbo further expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who have shown support, prayers, and solidarity with the family during this difficult time.

The family further announced that funeral and burial arrangements for the late Mrs. Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya) will be communicated in due course, the Commissioner stated.
