Fabian Benjamin, Public Communication Adviser at JAMB, noted this development in the latest bulletin the Board released on this year’s Mock UTME held ahead of the public  examinations slated for from April 16 – 25, 2026.

JAMB also said the principal objective of the mock UTME is to provide an opportunity to identify centres that fall short of the required operational and technical standards.

According to the Board, a total of 2,243,816 candidates registered for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination nationwide, with Lagos (321,814), Kaduna (303,498), FCT-Abuja (302,963), and Ogun (137,156) leading the list of states with the highest number of registrants.

The bulletin also revealed ahead of the 2026 UTME, JAMB has created 1,000 examination centres nationwide, up from fewer than 800 in 2025, in order to improve access and logistics for candidates.

The Board, however, stated that its internal review identified several centres that failed to meet the required technical and operational standards during the mock UTME exercise.

JAMB noted the delisting of the affected CBT centres was sequel to widespread technical issues recorded during the 2026 mock UTME.

The Board stated that the decision to delist the affected centres was part of efforts at safeguarding the integrity of its examination process while  ensuring only compliant centres are used for the forthcoming main UTME.
