In a strategic move to ease off financial burden on Nigerian travellers on domestic flights, the Federal Government has launched a ‘Fly Now, Pay Later’ consumer credit scheme.

ConsumerConnect reports the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) Tuesday, March 17, 2026, disclosed this development in a statement via its official X handle.

CREDICORP stated the ‘Fly Now, Pay Later’ consumer credit initiative now enables eligible passengers to book local flights, and spread payments over time through structured financing.

The initiative came as several Nigerians contend with increasing ticket costs, which have made air travel increasingly unaffordable despite rising demand for intercity connectivity in recent times.

The Corporation disclosed the credit solution is being implemented in partnership with MyVisaro and Alert Microfinance Bank.

The initiative is said to be part of broader efforts at expanding access to responsible consumer credit, and promoting financial inclusion in the Nigerian economy.

It is also noted that during the 2025 Yuletide period, one-way fares on some domestic routes surged by about 150 percent, climbing above N300,000 per consumer.

Airlines have also linked the price hikes to rising, unstable aviation fuel costs, Foreign Exchange (Forex) constraints, and other operational challenges.

Core objectives of credit solution

In regard to the fundamental objectives of the new-fangled credit solution for air passengers, CREDICORP said it was designed to remove the upfront payment barrier that often delays critical travel plans in the West African country.

The Corporation also noted: “Through this initiative, eligible customers can book domestic flights today and repay the cost over time through structured financing.”

Prospective beneficiaries of the credit scheme are encouraged to apply through the Visaro platform to access the facility and book flights across Nigeria.

CREDICORP noted that the scheme further aligned with its mandate to improve Nigerian consumers’ access to essential services through innovative financial solutions.

It stated: “At CREDICORP, we remain committed to enabling Nigerians to live better now. ‘Fly now. Pay later.’ Opportunity shouldn’t wait.”
