President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Lebara Nigeria on its recent official launch, describing the development as a milestone in the West African country’s digital ecosystem.

ConsumerConnect reports President Tinubu said Lebara’s debut in the country was a mark of strong vote of confidence in the emerging Nigeria Digital Economy, and its future as a leading technology and investment destination on the African continent.

The Nigerian leader also noted that Nigeria’s telecommunications sector is a significant economic driver, with a 5.78 percent year-on-year growth Third Quarter (Q3) 2025, and an overall contribution of over 14 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He equally commended the leadership and partners of Lebara Nigeria, including Mrs. Teniola Stuffman, Chief Executive of the telecoms firm, for their commitment to expanding telecoms access, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, at the weekend, stated the President acknowledged that telecoms investments are critical to deepening financial inclusion, enabling innovation, and accelerating economic growth.

He acknowledged the presence and support of the British High Commission (BHC) in Nigeria, represented by Mr Johny Baxter, Deputy High Commissioner.

Tinubu affirmed that his participation in the event underscored the enduring economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom (UK).

The statement as well noted President Tinubu emphasised that such collaborations reflected Nigeria’s openness to responsible foreign investment and strategic global partnerships.

The President also recognised the contributions of the Chairman of the Telco’s Advisory Board, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, and other Board members for their leadership, expertise, and belief in Nigeria’s growth potential in telecommunications.

Onanuga stressed President Tinubu noted that initiatives like Lebara Nigeria would contribute meaningfully to job creation, youth empowerment, enterprise development, and broader economic diversification in the country.

He restated his administration’s commitment to fostering a stable, transparent, and investment-friendly environment where innovation and private enterprise can thrive, noted the Presidential aide.

President Tinubu, therefore, wished Lebara Nigeria continued success as the firm commenced commercial operations, while encouraging continued collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
