BMW recalls X5, X6 cars, Daimler Vans recalls 26 Mercedes Benz, Freightliner Sprinters

BMW of North America is recalling seven model year 2019-2020 X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i & X5 xDrive50i vehicles, and model year 2020 X6M vehicles.

The steering column shaft bearing plate may not have been attached properly to the vehicle, allowing it to loose, according to agency report.

A loose bearing plate can affect the vehicle’s handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Regarding what to do, BMW will notify affected owners, and dealers will inspect the steering column shaft bearing plate and properly attach or replace it, as necessary, free of charge.

Though a notification schedule has not yet been provided, owners may contact BMW Customer Service on (800) 525-7417.

Similarly, Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) is recalling 26 model year 2019 Mercedes Benz and Freightliner Sprinters over incorrect rear leaf spring shims that may have been installed in the vehicles.

The incorrect leaf spring shims, according to report, may have been installed between the rear axle and the leaf springs possibly affecting the vehicle’s handling and increasing the risk of a crash.

On rectifying the error, DVUSA will notify the affected vehicle owners, and dealers will replace the leaf spring shims on both sides, renew the spring brackets, check the rubber buffers for wear, renewing them if necessary, and adjust the headlamps free of charge.

The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification.
