The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has disclosed it extended the deadline for filing of employers’ annual tax returns from February 1 to February 7, 2026, to provide employers with additional time to complete and submit accurate tax returns.

Ayodele Subair, Executive Chairman of LIRS, stated this Friday, January 30, explained that the statutory deadline for filing of employers’ annual tax returns is January 31, every year.

Subair, however, stressed the week-long extension is meant to provide employers with additional time to complete and submit accurate tax returns to the Service.

The Executive Chairman, however, urged employers of labour to give priority to the timely filing of their annual returns.

According to him, compliance should be embedded as a routine business practice in the state.

He restated that electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting annual returns, as manual filings have been completely phased out.

The LIRS, therefore, urged employers to file their returns exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal: https://etax.lirs.net.

Describing the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7, Subair as well encouraged  employers to ensure that the TaxIDs (Tax Identification Numbers) of all employees are correctly captured in their submissions on the portal.
