As part of efforts at ensuring healthiness and sustainability of the telecommunications industry, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has tasked media professionals on the criticality of accurately shaping narratives, and guiding national conversations in their reportage of the significant sector of the economy.

ConsumerConnect reports Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head of Public Affairs of the Commission, said this Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in her remarks at the media engagement on the release of the Commission’s Fourth Quarter (Q4) 2025 Network Performance Reports, in Abuja, FCT.

NCC’s Network Performance Reports prioritise data-driven insights for consumers, industry stakeholders

Welcoming participants to the engagement session, Mrs. Ukoha emphasised that media professionals’ contributions are “critical to the health and sustainability of the telecommunications sector.”

She noted the telecoms sector regulatory Commission hitherto, had affirmed its commitment to accountability and transparency, and a data-driven approach in implementing its mandate.

NCC’s committed to transparent, timely data for industry stakeholders

The NCC Head of Public Affairs explained the media engagement was part of the Commission’s commitment to driving, generating accurate, transparent, and timely data for telecoms consumers and other stakeholders in the communications industry in Nigeria.

Ukoha further stated: “Consequently, we have the responsibility to ensure that this data is properly understood, well‑interpreted, and correctly communicated to the Nigerian public.

“And in this effort, you, our media partners, are indispensable.”

Core objectives of Quart Network Performance Reports

Highlighting the essence of publishing the NCC Q4 Network Performance Reports, Mrs. Ukoha, who is also a media veteran herself, disclosed the fundamental of the recent engagement was “to deepen your understanding of the NCC’s quarterly performance data, and to equip you with practical insights on how best to integrate these findings into your reporting.

“Therefore, this session gives you access not only to the data itself, but also to the context behind it, context that ensures accuracy, prevents misinterpretation, and ultimately enhances the quality of information reaching the public.”

According to her, in reporting telecoms industry data to Nigerians and the global world, members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm should encourage what is called “constructive framing”.

Explaining that constructive framing does not mean ignoring sectoral challenges, the Head of Public Affairs noted it means “presenting issues in a way that highlights progress alongside challenges, shows the solutions being deployed, reflects the investments and innovations shaping the sector, recognises improvements in Quality of Service (QoS) and experience, and supports industry resilience.”

She reaffirmed the Commission’s Quarterly Network Performance Reports provide rich material for daily news coverage, feature stories, data‑driven investigative reporting, background analysis for interviews, and sector monitoring dashboards.

Appreciation for media support

Underscoring the media reportage influences how Nigerians understand the technologies driving their daily life, Ukoha averred: “We value your partnership. Your reporting shapes the national narrative around telecommunications.

“It affects investor confidence, consumer trust, and policy direction. “It influences how Nigerians understand the technologies that power their daily lives.”

The Commission’s Head of Public Affairs added in her remarks: “Thank you for your professionalism and continued commitment to responsible journalism.”
