Telecoms: Olorunnimbe confirmed NCC Board Chair, assures of improving digital inclusion, consumer protection

The Nigerian Senate Committee on Communications has rounded off the screening of Mr. Idris Olurunnimbe as the Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as well as other members of the new Board.

Speaking during the screening process in the Senate, Olorunnimbe stated his commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through a regulatory environment that deepens Broadband penetration, strengthens digital inclusion, protects consumers, and unlocks investment across telecoms and digital economy sectors in Nigeria.

The Chairman-designate, who is a lawyer, entrepreneur, creative industry executive, public administrator and Founder and Group Chief Executive of The Temple Company, assured the Federal legislators of replicating his proven track record of strategic leadership, innovation, and institution-building across multiple sectors in the Nigerian economy.

Olorunnimbe has been described as an accomplished entrepreneur, lawyer and public policy advocate.

He had also served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committee, and administered impactful youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes.

The new Chairman of NCC holds executive education credentials from Harvard Business School, Oxford University, University of Cambridge, and Henley.

ConsumerConnect reports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently reconstituted the Boards of NCC and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), both agencies under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE).

The President appointed the new Chairman while Dr. Aminu Maida remains the Commission’s Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO).

Mr. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement August 12, 2025, had disclosed the other members of the NCC Board are:

  1. Abraham Oshadami – Executive Commissioner, Technical Services
  2. Rimini Makama        – Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management
  3. Hajia Maryam Bayi   – Former Director, Human Capital & Administration
  4. Col Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd.)
  5. Senator Lekan Mustafa
  6. Chris Okorie
  7. Princess Oforitsenere Emiko
  8. Secretary of the Board.

The Nigerian President as well approved the Board of the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), with Dr. Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, as Chairman.

The Federal Government, through the NCC, established the Universal Service Provision Fund to facilitate the achievement of national policy goals for universal access and service to Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in rural, unserved and underserved areas in Nigeria.
