The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the appointment of Mr. Adedayo Oketola as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), new Chairman of the Commission.

INEC Monday, October 27, 2025, announced Oketola’s to members of the INEC Press Corps in a message welcoming the CPS to the Commission’s communications team and media coordination platform.

Oketola, an accomplished media professional, communications strategist, and multiple award winner is an alumnus of both Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and University of Ibadan (UI), in Ibadan, Nigeria, with professional certifications from institutions in the country and overseas.

He brings over two decades of industry experience in investigative reporting, media management, and strategic communications to his fresh appointment.

Prior to his current appointment as the CPS to the Chairman of INEC, Oketola had held senior editorial positions at The Punch newspapers, where he covered energy industry, telecoms, national politics, business, and governance.

His appointment is expected to strengthen INEC’s media relations and enhance public communication as the Commission continues its reforms towards transparent and credible elections in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, members of the INEC Press Corps have congratulated the new CPS on his appointment.

They also expressed their readiness to work closely with Oketola in promoting accurate and timely dissemination of electoral information to the Nigerian public.
