Nigeria launches National Digital Trustmark for cybersafety, economic sustainability

The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken a major stride towards building a safer and more transparent digital economy with the official launch of the National Digital Trustmark.

ConsumerConnect reports the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) spearheaded the digital initiative for consumer safety in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and support of GIZ.

NITDA affirmed the event attracted major stakeholders from both the public and private sectors of the economy.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency, in a statement shared via its verified social media platform, also explained the initiative was designed to strengthen trust and security across the digital space in the West African country.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the National Digital Trustmark, Dr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, said trust remains the cornerstone of a vibrant and sustainable digital economy.

Inuwa, represented on the occasion by Dr. Dimie Wariowei, Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy at the agency, as well noted the National Digital Trustmark establishes “a structured framework for certifying credible online businesses, enabling consumers to engage in digital transactions with greater confidence.”

The agency stated the digital initiative equally seeks to promote transparency, safeguard consumers in the online environment, and support the growth of Nigeria’s evolving digital marketplace.

NITDA said the unveiling of the National Digital Trustmark was expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing digital inclusion, protecting consumers, and driving sustainable growth within the country’s fast expanding digital ecosystem.
