Electricity: DisCos install 225,631 prepayment meters Q2 2025 –NERC

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed the country’s Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed total 225,631 prepayment electricity meters in the Second Quarter (Q2) of 2025.

ConsumerConnect reports the power regulatory Commission noted this development in its Second Quarter report published on its corporate Web site.

NERC stated the figure represented an increase of 20.55 per lcent compared to the 187,161 meters installed in the first quarter of 2025.

The Commission also noted that during the period, 147,823 meters representing 65.52 percent have been installed under the Meter Assert Provider (MAP) framework.

According to NERC, 5,315 meters have been installed under the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF), and 12,259 others under the Vendor Financed framework.

The report stated: “Two hundred and thirty four meters were installed under the DisCo Financed framework.

“As of the end of June 2025, only 6,422,933 out of the total 11,821,194 active registered customers in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) were metered translating to a metering rate of 54.33 percent.”

The Commission said that DisCos successfully resolved 1,129 complaints out of the 2,474 filed at the

NERC- Customer Complaints Unit (CCU). adding the figure translated to a resolution rate of 45.63 percent.

It, however, put the number of complaints received across all DisCo-CCUs at 227,267, representing a 10.67 per cent decrease compared to the 254,404 in the first quarter of 2025.

The report further noted: “As in previous quarters, metering, billing and service interruption were the prevalent issues of customer complaints during the quarter.”
